There will be an open audition for all categories on June 28, 2008 at Krannert Park.
The winners at the August 9th finals will receive cash prizes.
Presented by Light of the World Church & Indianapolis Urban League
in collaboration with Indiana Marion County Health Department, Indianapolis Public Schools, Indy Parks & Recreation, etc.
Mission: The Citywide Talent Competition, is an effort to give youth something positive to do this summer which could possibly have career ramifications. We want the youth to be constructive in their behavior while exploring their creativity.
Eligibility: must be a resident of Indianapolis between the ages of 13 and 24. Entry is on a first-come first-served basis. Space is limited. A waiting list will be kept.
Audition dates are:
April 26, 2008 @ ___________ noon to 4PM – Spoken Word
May 17, 2008 @ ___________ noon to 4PM – Vocals
June 7, 2008 @ ____________ noon to 4PM – Instrumentals
June 28, 2008 @ ____________ noon to 4PM – Dance
August 9, 2008 Concert at McAllister Pavilion located @ Garfield Park
•Contestants will be judged on: technique, stage presence, natural talent, overall impression, interpretive ability, and other items specific to each category. One winner in each age group will be chosen from each category to perform in the selected venues to possibly include halftime at a Pacer and Colts game. Winners will also receive a professionally produced demo DVD to be shared with selected talent agents.
•The vocal winners will possibly be sponsored to showcase their talent at American Idol as Indy’s Icons if show scheduling permits.

2008 Citywide Talent Contest Rules
1.Contestant must be 13-24 years of age. (Age will be determined be the following birthdates: 6/1/95 through 6/1/78. Must be able to show proof of age.)
2.Contestants must live in Marion County.
3.Contestant may only enter in one talent category.
4.Only non-professionals may compete. (Contestant may not have received endorsements or pay for their talent that exceeds $2,000 in the last 12 months. May not have an agent or have signed with a label.)
5.Entry forms must be received at least two (2) weeks before auditioning date. Late entries will not be accepted.
6.All group contestant names must be listed on one entry form.
7.Each contestant must have a Waiver and Release from Liability form filled out and signed by their parent/guardian.
8.Talent division placements are finalized by Indy’s Icon staff.
9.Competition officials reserve the right to schedule the acts in any order for a fair contest and a good show!
10.Judges’ decisions are final. Under no circumstances should any judge be contacted concerning the Competition.
11.In the event there is only one participant in a division, the contestant must obtain an above average score to win.
12.Harassment of officials before, during and/or after any of the competitions will result in immediate disqualification.
13.Fire batons are not allowed.
14.Finalists must participate in the dress rehearsal for the Concert and attend the Concert!
Additional Rules for Performing Arts:
1.Acts may have up to 10 members. If comprised of two or more persons, the act must enter the grade classification of the oldest participant.
2.All lyrics must be submitted in writing with the signed entry blank and waiver form.
3.All lyrics, choreography and costumes must be unobjectionable and suitable for a family audience i.e. no profanity, no sexual gestures, midriffs must be covered. If you do not comply, you will be disqualified and asked to leave the stage.
4.If one member of an act is disqualified, the entire group will be disqualified.
5.Substitutions or additions in personnel will not be allowed after the deadline date.
6.Each act will be allowed 3 minutes to perform. Going over this time limit may result in the deduction of points from the act’s score. (If time is constrained, judges will stop each act after 2 minutes of performing and no time penalty will be taken.)
7.Accompanist or CD accompaniment must be supplied by contestant. CD must have specific tracks indicated. Cassette tapes cannot be used.
8.Contestants must arrive dressed and ready to perform. A warm-up room will be provided for minimal practice.
9.Contestants must be present and check-in at least a half-hour before their division is scheduled to perform.
