They were letters to God
By Monique Crain
From the time I was a young child, I remembered my mother writing in her bedroom and not wanting to be disturbed. One day I mustered up enough "courage" to sneak and read her writings. They were letters to God. I remember being surprised by how honest, passionate, and conversational they were.
I knew my mother wasn't crazy, so He had to be real. He was her friend, comforter, husband, and source of strength in the face of adversity. Well, I decided God could be that for me too, if I wanted. I knew God was keeping things cool when everything seemed crazy to me.
A couple years later, we were introduced to Light of the World. The love of the people overwhelmed our family! I publicly gave my life to Christ at that time, 19 years ago.
The availability of "Dr. B." made me feel special.
The testimony of Youth Minister Preston Adams allowed me to feel comfortable asking questions.
The worship of Walter Owens gave me an appreciation for personal praise.
The awesome youth ministry exposed my gifts and passions. I knew God was there and I felt at home for the first time since my parents' divorce. These experiences as a 12 year old, changed my life forever for the better.
